Pipes, BB Guns and Switchfoot
So i was reading one of Don Miller's blog posts today about how much it hurts when someone forgets your name. It's true, if you're in a classroom setting and one of your peers forgets your name, most likely unintentionally, it kind of bogs you down completely. He explains this a lot better than i can and you should check it out: http://donmilleris.com/2010/03/22/why-it-hurts-when-somebody-forgets-your-name-a-christian-perspective/. But while i was thinking about this in a school setting, i started thinking of other things (this is how my mind works, and to be honest it goes in so many different directions at once it's not hard to keep myself entertained) like what it would be like to not be going to school, or how our lives are being lived, or what was in the coffee i just drank. Besides being wired on caffeine, thoughts came across about just dropping out of school and going west and playing music (i'm still contemplating this). And we all look for signs to point us in the right direction that we want, but not necessarily what God wants. Although we're designed with certain talents and abilities, is this what God intends and wants for us or is it just all a huge dramatic play in our heads? I've struggled a lot with this lately and haven't really found answers, and may never find answers. But while walking around smoking my semi-new corn cob pipe, inhaling every few draws, a sudden peace came over me as the lyrics to "On Fire" by switchfoot were blaring in my headphones. God's going to put us where He wants us when He knows we're ready, and that's one of the most calming things to think about. No matter how much we read or don't read of our different versions of His word, no matter how many conversations we have with other people on religion, He's going to put us exactly where we need to be. Granted everyone strays and runs like little rabbits being chased by a 12 year old boy with a brand new BB gun, but if we're constantly seeking Him we're back on track to our little "rabbit holes" (for the sake of the metaphor). So.......enough ranting on these things, just a little food for thought that i found calming. Hopefully more mind blowers to come soon.
